I’m Not Scared of Growing Old
Wrinkles,
toothless smiles,
white hair,
or walking with a cane—
none of these frighten me.
What scares me
is reaching an age
when I can no longer care for myself—
when I need others
to feed me,
to bathe me,
to help me move,
and to do the things
I once did on my own.
I know I have fewer friends now.
But solitude is not loneliness.
As I grow older,
I value peace more than
unnecessary arguments,
and quiet moments more than
the need to prove I am right.
When I reach the end of my journey,
I ask for only three things:
Dignity.
Independence.
Strength.
To remain self-sufficient,
to live with dignity,
and to care for myself
until the very end.
Inshallah..God Willing
